Game #128: A's 9, Rangers 3
August 25, 2006 | A's @ Texas
7:44 PMBarry Zito's no-hitter is broken up by Mark DeRosa at the top of the 8th. The once quiet Texas crowd in Arlington comes alive with cheers, but here in Oakland we gasp in disappointment.
Zito allowed only one walk through seven innings. The walk came in the 2nd inning and it was worked by that pest, DeRosa.
This is still a brilliant outing by Zito and I think the A's will win this game. I'm just pausing for a moment to say, "Rats!"
How cool it would've been if Zito threw a no-hitter... A's 3, Rangers 0
8:08 PM
Take that, Texas! You took away our no-hitter and we're humiliating you with six runs scored in the top of the 9th! A's 9, Rangers 0
8:22 PM
DARN YOU, TEXAS! A's 9, Rangers 2
8:28 PM
Game over. Barry Zito's 100th win with the A's. The Rangers rallied to avoid a shutout, but we're still 8 games ahead of them. A's 9, Rangers 3
I love Barry Zito.
Check out the well-A-meter.
(Game experience: KYCY 1550 AM from the 6th inning)
A's record: 73-55 | streak: W-2 | well-A-meter: 5

Hmmm, I hope Wella's confidence is not misplaced :-) Don't jinx us!
Did you check out the recent articles re Frank Thomas?

Wella's on pretty firm ground -- at least for the division title. At this point, if the A's play .500 ball, the Angels will have to play .667 ball (22-11) to tie. Neither possibility seems probable. The A's have more home games left than road games, so they should exceed .500. And while the Angels have gotten hot in September all too often recently, they'll probably have to exceed .667 this year to catch the A's.
World Series? ... Let's give it another 15 games. Will we be playing the Tigers, White Sox or the dreaded nemesis, the Twins, in the first round?
Since we hit a 5 on the Wella meter, I see a potential scheduling problem with the World Series. Game two of this year's Fall classic is on October 22nd. With Trevor Hoffman blowing this year's All-Star game, that means the A's get to host the first two games. Unfortunately, the Raiders are scheduled to host Arizona on the 22nd. Even more alarming is the following week. The Raiders are scheduled to host the defending Super Bowl champion Steelers on October 29th which is already totally sold out. That's the same date as World Series game seven (if necessary), again hosted by the American League champs.
My guess is the Raiders will be gracious and re-schedule their games to the following Monday night when the Coliseum becomes available. This situation is similar to the early 70's when the A's won three straight World Series which inconvenienced the Raiders. Of course, the priceless memories made it all worthwhile.
Whoa, whoa, whoa. I actually don't want to think that far ahead.
I'm just feeling pretty good this month of August and especially with Loaiza's performance the other day building up to Zito performance yesterday.
I did try to get rights to post-season seats today. :-)
