Game #152: A's 7, Indians 4

September 21, 2006 | A's vs. Indians
The magic number is down to 4. The Angels are off today.

Rich Harden pitched three innings and the bullpen took care of the rest.

We see the Angels starting tomorrow!

(Game experience: None)

A's record: 89-63 | streak: W-3 | magic number: 4 | well-A-meter: 5.00

Excellent. Now the A's just need to win two out of the three games against Los Angeles of Anahiem to clinch in front of their fans. If they don't, I foresee plane loads of A's fans arriving in Seattle next week.

Bring the numbers when you're ready, Tanner. But why does your list have 4? Do you mean 3 or 4 in the rotation?

Me? I have no numbers. Here's my three-man rotation:

1. Zito - he's our ace; give him the ball for Game 1
2. Loaiza
3. Haren

Harden comes out of the bullpen. He'd be very intimidating merely sitting there in the 'pen as a back-up.

I like that all three have post-season experience.

I agree that Harden would be good to use out of the bullpen. It's uncertain how many pitches he can give you which makes planning for his start a little difficult. Harden throws hard enough to be very effective out of the bullpen.

However, I would go with the four pitcher rotation and give Blanton a chance to start. That way, if we have to go back to another dreaded game five of the ALDS, Zito will have four days rest. And if we win the ALDS before that, Zito is available for game one of the ALCS.
