Mark Ellis out

Ellis broke his index finger in the 9th inning yesterday and he'll be out for the rest of the postseason. D'Angelo Jimenez will take over.

I don't want to take this as bad news. Be positive. The A's can do this!

The 1972 A's lost their clean-up hitter, Reggie Jackson, for the World Series against the heavily favored Cincinnati Reds. The Swingin' A's played through that injury and prevailed.

Ellis led all second basemen in fielding this year. And somewhere else on the web, it was pointed out that the Twins are a ground-ball hitting team. 14 ground outs in Game 2 and Scutaro was within one assist of tying some kind of record.

All this ignores, of course, that Ellis is also a home run king. :)

Ellis' absence won't make a difference if the Twins remain intent on giving the A's the series.
