Game #55: A's 4, Twins 0

June 1, 2006 | A's vs. Minnesota

Sports Illustrated close-up of Zito's curveball gripBOOF BONSER! His name was ringing in my ears during the pre-game show.

After the game started, I went to run an errand in a place with no radio reception and next thing I know, Street's closing and the A's have their second shutout in a row. I can't keep up with these guys! The game was over in two hours (actually 1:57).

Zito was solid and I was fortunate to be listening when he garnered his 1,000th strikeout (of course, he used his curveball). Calero continues to be dependable. And all the runs in the game were generated by homers. Incredible!

It truly is the month of June.

(Game experience: Bits of KYCY 1550 AM.)

A's record: 25-29 | streak: W-2 | well-A-meter: 3

Zito is pitching as well as he did in his Cy Young year. Let's hope he doesn't hit a wall in August and September.

During that losing stretch we just had when the A's lost nine out of 10 games, Zito was the one win. Now that's an ace!

Great game. Fastest subjective game experience ever. (I seem to remember a game with Petit(? Pettitte?) pitching that lasted forEVER. And I, too, was startled to realize that all the runs were coming on homers.

In spite of a paltry attendance of only 12,025, we did manage a nice bit of noise when they posted the stat about Zito's 1,000 strikeout.

Great weather, fast game, even some decent fan fielding of the numerous foul and home run balls.
