Game #72: A's 0, Rockies 6
June 20, 2006 | A's @ Colorado
I don't want to talk about it. But my mom is willing to give this report. Portions are translated from Tagalog and there's absolutely no fact-checking done. Take it away, Mom:Esteban Loaiza was dishing out good pitches to the Rockies. Can you imagine? The Rockies are the worst team in the NL.Thanks, Mom.
And the A's aren't hitting. When someone can't hit, then no one else can hit. Why is that? Why do they do that together?
And when someone gets on base, they get a double play!
Are they scared? When the other team scores first, it's like they're scared. What kind of behavior is that? Maybe this will be the first time they'll get a three-game shutout. [dripping with disdain]
It's always the 4th inning when the other team scores a lot.
Maybe this is a 10-game losing streak...
Gaudin was good. Then Flores came out. But I stopped watching. I can tell when they're going to lose. My intuition is strong. So I watched basketball instead. But I also knew Dallas was going to lose. I thought the game was over, but it was only the end of the third quarter. Miami was ahead in the score, and I knew Dallas was going to lose.
To jumpstart the A's, I'm bringing back Tanner Boyle to guest blog tomorrow. Here's hoping for the best.
(Game experience: Radio)
A's record: 38-33 | streak: L-2 | well-A-meter: 2

it might be a perfect world if your mother would be able to replace Joe Morgan for the A's broadcasts with John Miller--If we're going to be criticized and misunderstood as a team, at least do so in an interesting or novel way.
Seriously, can you post/take a picture of your mom in the living room watching the game? Or maybe we have a photography contest of portraits or watchers/readers with their televisions that submit pics of where they watch the game. somehow I think it would be more interesting --more interesting than Barry Zito's (ahem) "artistic endeavors"--the bad guitar playing and the photos that do not rise above someone else's vacation slides. Maybe they are worse==arty millionaire guy's navel gazing. Wow, I didn't realize that he was such an easy put-down target.
I digress. Baseball in the coliseum is such a public thing, and the television can connect us all. Since we all know what the Mount dump looks like, the more interesting thing might be what the individual "home" team's seat looks like. I'm getting to work on mine.
You can see what I think about when they become unwatchable.

Funny, I listen to almost all the games on the radio (broadcast TV + poor local reception doesn't give me many viewing opportunities). In my car, while cooking at home, while gardening, while quilting. You're right, that could be a pretty entertaining set of photos!
I really, really, really, really wanted to post a photo of my mom frowning, but there is no way she would forgive me. She would probably allow me to post a picture of her where she looks her absolute best, if I ask very nicely (and after I explain how the Internet works and what blogging is).
But you have a fantastic idea, Brendan! I'm going to ask someone to take photos of me watching the game on TV.
If you have yours, post it here. If we have enough pics, I'll put a gallery up.
It ought to rival a pitcher's pictures. :-)
Because I have a 15-month old girl, I am not at the games--they all get TIVO'd. Even before that, my experience of being a pretty rabid fan is through the radio/tv--now that Bill King is gone, it's mostly the TV--with the sound off. I have taken pictures of the television--totally obsessive fan behavior, and understandable given my level of interest, but since I'm never at the games (I haven't had the heart to go since Jeremy Giambi didn't slide), it's solely a television experience.
which is to say that it's probably more of an obsessive relationship. even though I'm in Oakland, etc.
Does it count that I walk by Fentons' when Marty Lurie is broadcasting?
perhaps I'm one of those sabremetric nerds--never a player, always an observer.
