Game #97: A's 4, Tigers 7

Wow. I guess the Tigers really are that good.• Well it looks like today my favorite A's pitcher Dan Haren wasn't pitching well. Nine hits and seven runs over six innings doesn't sound like him. Having not seen his start, I don't know if he's just having an off day or if he's (yipes!) hurt in some way.
I noticed on the box score that Haren had a pickoff. Forgot who it was, but from a snippet I heard on the radio, it was exciting. Pickoffs usually are.
• Milton Bradley continues to do well. I read in the paper that earlier this week he was brutally heckled by Red Sox fans. Poor guy.
• Good rally by the A's in the top of the 9th, but the additional two runs were too little. Game over at 7-4, Tigers.
This series is important for the A's to show that we really are a contending team. The race is so tight in the AL West, who knows if later in the last week of the season, one game makes the difference on whether the Rangers or Angels go to the playoffs instead of us.

I was hoping that Detroit would have an emotional letdown after their big series with Chicago. There are still two games left with the Tigers. The A's just need to win one of them to assure themselves a winning record during this long, hot and wet East Coast road trip.
Detroit scares me. These guys are the real thing. I don't think they'd undergo an emotional letdown.
