Going for the sweep

I have tickets for tomorrow's game, but if the A's win today and the rest of this series is cancelled, I WOULDN'T MIND.

In fact this is what I'd like to see:

Danny Haren and the A's, including second baseman D'Angelo Jimenez, handily beat rickety Brad Radke and the demoralized Twins.

The Twins go home, Oakland celebrates, our tickets for Saturday's game are refunded.

Detroit and the Yankees have to go the full five games of the series, the last three end in extra innings. The Tigers emerge victorious, but their pitchers are exhausted from these high-scoring games.

The well-rested A's face Detroit and win the ALCS...

But I won't get too far ahead of myself. First things first.

Go for the sweep!

That sounds good. But I'd rather have the Yankess prevail in a long, drawn out five game series. Then the A's go in to the Bronx and beat the Bombers for the pennant. Then in the World Series, they in to Queens and beat the Mets. That way, they get all of the East Coast to respect them and Barry Zito can get his $100 millon contract.

I'll just be satisfied if the A's advance. In my "future" thinking, I was strongly rooting for the Tigers to hold on to the Central lead, but it seems to be working out OK the other way, so I'll stop rooting for things that might tempt fate to prove that I should be careful what I wish for.

As I was writing this, Chavy homered. Now let's hope that Haren settles down,

As I write this, the score is 4-1 in favor of the A's. :-)

I think Torii Hunter needed to redeem himself. Solo home run. Cool. Done. Redeemed.

Now for Haren to shut out the Twins for the rest of the game.

Radke just made an error.

Come on, Twins! FOLD! Concede defeat! This game belongs to the A's!

We've seen two balls get into right field that Ellis probably would have stopped. The second one resulted in a run.

Here's to a successful three innings of bullpen pitching.

Scutaro just cleared the bases with a two out three run double in the 7th. It's time to celebrate 'cause this game is in the Fridge!

Santa Claus came early for the A's. My guess is they'll have to earn the next series after being given this one on a silver platter.

But I don't care how they advanced. It's just great fun that they did.

After giving away game 3 in 2003 with horrid base running, this "gift" series was long over due. Yay! The A's close out the series and traffic won't be so bad for tomorrow's Cal/Oregon game in Berkeley!
