ALCS Game #3: A's 0, Tigers 3
October 13, 2006 | A's @ Detroit
FRIDAY THE 13thI'm not superstitious about Friday the 13th. I am superstitious about other matters. I wore my lucky socks today to help the A's get the win, but it didn't seem to work.
A couple of thoughts:
- The Tigers are playing with a ferocity and determination that will not be denied. I don't think they will sweep the A's, but if they did, I wouldn't be surprised.
- Lack of faith, you say? Maybe it's the anger and bitterness talking, but the chances of the Tigers winning four games in a row are greater than the A's chances of winning four games in a row starting tomorrow. Mathematically speaking.
(Game experience: Checked score on MLB Gameday )
ALCS: A's 0, Tigers 3 with 4 games to go | NLDS: Mets 1, Cardinals 0 with 6 games to go

The season isn't over yet, but things are looking kind of grim. Personally speaking, I find it much easier to accept being trounced in a playoff series than losing a closely contested series. When a team is trounced, you accept the fact that the better team advanced. Case closed.
But losing a close series can cause one to toss and turn at night for months because of all the details. You dwell over that line drive that Candy Maldonaldo kicked in game 6 of the 1987 NLCS until you want to shrivel up and die. I can remember bringing a Boston Red Sox fan to tears simply by saying "Bill Buckner". It's losing the close games that cause the sharpest and most unforgivable pain, not the blow outs.
We don't have to win four in a row. We have to win one in a row four times. The A's have done this several times this season. I'm not liking our chances, but I'm sure not jumping ship at this late date.
